OUR STORY
A Multigenerational Affair
Founded as a hobby in 2020, Jason began KAAJ Free with the help and support of his niece and nephews. Many of our birds are kid-cuddled from hatch through adulthood.

ABOUT KAAJ FREE AND GRAYSLAND FARM
Our farm, Graysland Farm, had a poultry operation in the 90's but from about 2000 through 2019, we did not have any poultry. During the pandemic Jason began raising birds again and we now have a flock of over 150 birds. We have chickens, ducks, geese, guinea fowl, and peafowl.

In 2022 we added bees and have now expanded to five beehives which are each expected to produce at least 100 pounds of surplus honey this year!

Our birds are all fed commercial feed but also have free access to grit (for digestion), oyster shells (for hard shells), and are provided scratch grain regularly. Research shows that birds with access to roam freely produce more nutritious eggs and we are proud to be able to offer our birds unrestricted access to our farm.

We do not use any harsh chemicals to wash our eggs, water only, our eggs are hand gathered several times each day, refrigerated the same day, and sold within 5 days, per Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements.

Our honey is generally processed in summer and fall. We have both traditional Langstroth hives and Flow hives. When we replace hives we generally purchase Italian bees though it is possible that some of the hives have requeened themselves with mixed lineage queens.

FREE RANGE AND
NATURALLY* KEPT
All of our mature birds have the ability to roam freely. They have acres of fields, wooded areas, lawns, and hills to roam. Our bees have the same unfettered access to the area and are likely flying in a two mile radius!
*We subsrcribe to natural poultry rearing methods and use anibiotics and other medicine only when necessary. Federal law prohibits the addition of antibiotics and hormones to commercial poultry products.
